Cambridgeshire's Premier Ceilidh Band
Frog on a Bike have been playing for college JCR, MCR, society and Cambridge University wide events for over 30 years.
Our college clients have included Magdalene, Murry Edwards, St. Johns, Downing, Homerton, Corpus Christi, Robinson, Trinity, Emmanuel, Gonville & Caius, Girton, St.Catherines and Newnham.
We have also provided ceilidhs for societies, such as The Round English Country Dance Club, Cambridge University Veterinary Society, The Lady Margaret Boat Club, Trinity BA Society and the Cambridge University Air Squadron.
Frog on a Bike is an all inclusive band, and we provide non-gendered positional calling (couple number 1 or couple nearest the bar etc.) as standard, meaning anyone can dance with anyone!
As our local world renowned educational & research institute, we are very proud to be one of the main suppliers of ceilidhs to Cambridge University. As such, we are usually able to offer special discounts, particularly for repeat clients, so please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Planning
Feel free to contact us anytime during the booking process. About a month before your event, we will check in to finalise details.
We will supply everything you need from PA sound system to lighting and a dance caller to explain what to do. All you need to do is supply a suitable venue. This should be inside (particularly during winter), or substantially covered if outside during the summer months. The venue should have a reliable and safe 230v standard mains power supply.
The band requires an area of 12-14 square meters to comfortably perform in and house our equipment, though we have performed in smaller spaces. We recommend the dance-floor area is big enough for 1 square meter per dancer, a typical dance consisting of 2 sets of 12 people.
For any venue, the band requires parking on site and as close as possible to where the ceilidh is to be held. This is for efficient unloading and loading of equipment.
On the Night
Frog on a Bike will arrive at your venue 1 hr & 15mins before the booking time with high-quality PA and lighting to create a fantastic experience. For all events, 60 minutes for setup and soundcheck is the required minimum. In order for smooth set-up, so we are ready on time for your ceilidh, it is essential that our performance space is clear. However, if chairs and tables need to be removed from the dance floor, this can be done whilst the band is setting up without issue.
We typically perform 2-4 hours of live music for dancing, split into 2 x equal sets with a break in between for food or more speeches etc. Whatever you have planned, we take care of your entertainment needs, ensuring a seamless evening for you and your guests. If you have a playlist you would like during any breaks, we have connections for most music players, including Apple, to our PA.
Using our recommended 3hr booking as an example, a typical evening with Frog on a Bike might look like this:
We’re flexible with timings to fit your schedule**, and early arrival is available for an extra fee to ensure a smooth setup.
*Subject to venue requirements and acoustic properties
**Any midnight or past midnight finishes will incur an extra fee(s).
From weddings to birthdays, Burns Nights and society balls, ceilidhs bring people together like nothing else can!
